Flushing - Day 12
After a sumptuous breakfast prepared by Shaun, we headed out for a day's adventure. Andrew had to work today, so it was just the four of us.
We first took the water taxi to Falmouth, which is a stones throw from Flushing. We quickly learned that Lucas is a magnet to any and all bookstores, so Holly and I ventured off while Shaun and Lucas popped in to buy a book. The town center of Falmouth where the shops are is significantly bigger than Flushing's. That is to say, they have more than four. 😂
The shops are cute and mostly cater to tourists. Holly and I bought a little piece of art in one of them. Once Lucas saw it he said, "You're a part of Falmouth now." Very wise for a young lad!
From Falmouth we took a long ferry to St. Mawes. The views along the way were lovely.
By the time we arrived, we were getting pretty peckish, so we popped in for some lunch at the Rising Sun. The food was OK, but being outside on a lovely day was worth the price of admission.
Here Holly and Shaun are having a spirited debate on whether I was better looking in my 30s or now in my 50s. As you've already guessed, there was no wrong answer.
After lunch we walked along the beach and skipped stones. Fun!
Being in Corwall, it would have been a crime against humanity if we didn't try a Cornish Pastie. And these were right out of the oven - So we did! Very yummy. We also tried one of the local lobster rolls. We would have happily eaten either for the rest of the trip!
After taking the wrong ferry back to Falmouth (we had tickets for another ferry company, but the ticket taker took pitty on us), we met Andrew at a pub with a lovely view of the harbor. Pints, Aperol Spritz and crisps were had!
Once back in Flushing, we walked around the local watering hole for a bit.
There was a choir practicing in a crew/rowing boat house, so that was cool to hear as we walked by.
In the evening, Shaun and Andy pre-arranged to have a local gal watch Lucas, so it was just the adults out on the town of Flushing! We went to the other pub, the Harbor House, which made them a tad nervous about being seen. Apparently the owners are yuppy twats, which has rubbed the locals the wrong way. Regardless, the food and drinks were good!
After getting a belly full, we had nightcaps back at the house (Lucas was asleep, miraculously). We played Grab the Mic, which is a silly, but fun game.
Despite looking like they're trying to solve the mystery of "who farted?", here are Shaun and Andy during the game.
Fun day!!
