Flushing - Day 13
Today was out big adventure day to see more of Cornwall by car. Andrew took the day off and we all piled into their car and set off. Admittedly, the day started off rocky as Lucas was in a mood. If you liked hearing the word "no" then our car was where you wanted to be. 😟
I was able to somewhat distract Lucas by getting him to sing the real lyrics from Fiddler On the Roof: "Poppa, can you smell meeeee?"
On our way to St. Michael's, we stopped at a cute coastal town that neither of us remember the name of. It was overcast, but pretty.
We stopped for coffee and flapjacks before leaving town. This was where Lucas had his full meltdown. Good to get it out of the way early! Poor Shaun and Andy, they were at their wits end.
Further up the road, we reached the sunny beaches of St. Michael's. I think Andy used to come her as a kid. When the tide is out, you walk the causeway to the island where the castle is located.
Since the tide was coming back, only Lucas and Shaun wanted to walk. Holly, Andy and I took the ferry.
Here is the ferry's first mate.
Though the island is privately owned, the grounds and castle are part of a national park. I'm sure the gov't takes care of the cost of maintaining the island and the owners get to technically retain ownership (a family still lives in the castle).
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have visited the island before - An occasion to mark with showing their footprints. You could compare your feet to theirs. I think Holly's feet are bigger than either of theirs!
Though we didn't go inside the castle, we did tour the gorgeous gardens and grounds.
Back on the mainland, thirst took hold and we all decided a stop at the seaside pup was in order. Shaun and Lucas went for a swim. Andy, Holly and I dove into a few pints.
From this beautiful beach we went to another beach town, though this one was really overrun with tourists (Andy warned us). We found a nice beach bar and hung out.
Before heading home, we popped into a pub for dinner. Pretty standard fair. Lucas and I thought what each other ordered was a little wacko.
After dinner, Shaun, Andy and Lucas went for ice cream and Holly and I waited by the car. Even though we didn't have any food, the seagulls started dive bombing none-the-less. The signs there don't lie!
Once back in Flushing, the ice cream sugar kicked into high gear with Lucas and Shaun had good times ahead of him. So much so that Holly, Andy and I went to the pub.
We could hear Lucas yelling at Shaun from the pub. 😕
At least the sunset was peaceful!
Tomorrow we're off to London!
