Flushing to London - Day 14 (July 10)
Our phones were on vacation Day 14 bc we didn't take any pics all day! As such, we'll post a couple last photos from Cornwall.
And here are the highlights of this travel day...
After breakfast and saying our goodbyes to Shaun and Lucas, Andy drove us to the train station. I didn't realize train stations had a 1st class lounge, but they did and we were glad as we had time to kill. Once on the 4.5 hour train to London, we realized our seats were across a table from another couple. I think both Holly and I were "talked out" by this point, so we didn't engage.
There were a few nice vistas on the journey, but for the most part it wasn't particularly scenic. It felt long. Maybe because the seats weren't super comfy or because we were facing backwards (I got a little sea sick).
We knew prior to arriving that London was in a heatwave, and boy it did not disappoint! The Tube ride with our bags was a bit a sardine can, but we managed. In Scotland, Rachel commented that someone on the Madrid subway offered her their seat "Auntie, please." That kind of thing. Well, same-same. A young man (20s) offered me his seat. Holly thinks it's because I had a bag. I think it's because he took one look at me and thought "Uncle, please."
We arrived at Miraan and Phillipe's flat in Primrose Hill, which is very nice. We had some Aperol Spritz and snacks while we caught up with Miraan (P was at work), then headed to the neighborhood pub that we had been to on our last trip - The Queen's. Of course the pub had no A.C., but we got a table and the beers were cold. By the time P joined us, we were all a bit tipsy. P had an imperial while we finished ours and then we went back to their flat for sushi.
We talked a lot that day about Miraan's mother passing and how she is dealing with her grief. We also caught up with how P's mom is doing and his general life at DNeg.
We slept so-so that night because of the heat. But it's only a few nights, so we can manage!
