London - Day 15

Our final day of the trip! Holly and I were up before P left for work, so we got a few minutes with him over coffee/tea. Once he was gone, Holly and I relaxed in the backyard to take up some sun before the heat really kicked in. Mid-morning Miraan joined us, and we had a lovely chat.
 
Our plan for the day was to go to Abbey Roads where one of Holly's films, Pookoo, was scoring.  But before, took a leisure walk from Primrose to the area of Abbey Roads (yes, it was hot by then). We stopped for lunch at an Italian restaurant (thank god it had A.C.) and P joined us. We had no rez, but luckily we got there early enough that they seated us. We had pizzas and salads. Food was okay; the conversation was better. 
 
After lunch it was on to the world famous Abbey Road Studios. Lots of people outside the gates taking pictures. 
 
 
 
Once inside, we got to control center where they were recording a choir.
 

 
We were able to go inside the studio and watch from the balcony.
 

 

 
The best part was watching John (Lasseter) and the composer work together. The timing with the climactic scene seemed a bit stuck in the mud until John said "The flash of light is a story beat." Then the conductor got it and the problem was solved. 
 
 
 
Shortly after, bubbly was poured for everyone to celebrate a hard week's work. 

 
Miraan left for a doctor's appointment and Holly and I closed out the joint. After we found a pub in the theatre district (near our restaurant) and we enjoyed a few pints. 
It was very crowded and very hot, but we managed to snag a table by the window, so Grandpa was happy. 
 
 
For dinner, we met M and P at Balthazar, a bistro Miraan wanted to take us to. You can tell they do a lot of tourist/theatre business, but the food was decent. It was more of a fun celebration and re-connection with our great friends from SF/LA. 
 

Like all trips that come to an end, it's a bit bitter sweet. On one hand, you miss your pets and your home. On the other, you want to keep traveling forever.

Guess who woke to a lovely day? We did! The view from our cottage is really beautiful.   After a breakfast of eggs and old sausage rolls (still yummy), we drove to the ferry for the Isle of Mull. We got a bit lucky as there was a waiting list to get a car on to the ferry, but we made it. The views from the 40 min ferry ride were quite lovely. Lots of dogs on the ferry. The car alarms went off a lot!      A view of our block... Our Air BnB is the small yellow place.     Once off, we gassed up the car and grabbed some lunch to go. Our first stop was just up the road at Duart Castle. There was a little cafe on the grounds too! Edinburgh Day 1 (June 27th 2025)

We arrived in Scotland! Mike came from LA and I arrived from Madrid and we met at the Edinburgh airport. He had time for a pint before my flight landed. Per usual my bag did not make it (more on that tomorrow). Todd & Rachael are part of our travel crew for the first leg of the trip! We met up at the apartment we rented for refreshments of vino and cheese. The apartment is pretty spacious and decent views (3rd floor).        Chatting and snacking make time go really fast. So before we knew it, it was past nine. Edinburgh is not Madrid; restaurants close on the early side. Also, we didn't have reservations anyway, so wee walked around looking for a place that could seat us and - funnily enough - ended up in Spanish restaurant Cafe Andaluz - Really good tapas!

Edinburgh - Day 3 - Part 1

  V ery quickly the joke of the trip is one of John Lovitz tag lines: "Jealous!"     Today was our Rick Steve's historical walk of the Royal Mile. Rick's walks are a staple of our trips as w e find it's a great way to see the city by foot while learning about it's history too.      Our walk started back at the castle and down the main street.      The above pic is Gladstone's Land tenement building. We eventually made our first inside stop at the Writer's Museum, which was originally built as an aristocrats house in 1622. The museo has manuscripts and knickknacks by Scotland's three greatest writers: Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Burns, and Sir Walker Scott.        Our walk continued with the Riddles Court, Deacon Brodie's Tavern (Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde fame), the parliment building (which was closed) and St. Giles Cathedral.      Outside the St. Giles is the Heart of Midlothian which  people spit on...
